This photo has been around for awhile. THe tender in the background is off a Reading Pacific. Yes, it's 1950's, and fairly late.

The photo is at least a 1950's item. As there's a Reading Company engine tender in the backgroud, my guess would be it was taken on the P-RSL at Camden,N.J. Engine terminal (CTE). The P-RSL power pool based at CTE during steam days included P-RSL engines of PRR extraction, PRR engines and Reading Company engines for both frieght and passenger operations. Hope this helps.

This photo appears in Don Ball's "The Pennsylvania Railroad 1940s-1950s" on page 77, where it is identified as being taken at Pavonia in 1955. An adjacent view of a Reading G-3 invites an interesting comparison by Mr. Ball, who acknowledges certain subtle advantages of the G-3, built in 1948 to a 1916 design, while the K4s was built in 1918 to a 1914 design. Both photos were taken by David Sweetland, whom I note was NOT acknowledged by the individual who posted the photo without attribution.
