I've heard that a Texas and New Orleans 4-6-0, the 319, has been moved to Georgia from Monee Il. but no one has ever been able to tell me exactly where and who owns it. Does anyone on this list know specific information about this engine?

Thanks,

Tim

No additional information, But there is a photograph plus information on the rest of the locomotives once stored with the number 319 at Monee, Illinois on the Hardin Southern Railroad web site. The railroad devotes a whole web page to the locomotives "lost" at Monee out of which they rescued one Baldwin 2-6-2 they are now rebuilding. There is so much information there I am sure they know who Mr. John Rivers is and exactly where the number 319 steam locomotive is located but Mr. Rivers did not want it revealed.

I've also been told that in addition to the 4-6-0 and 2-6-2 (which belongs to another gentleman), there may also be a third engine, possibly an 0-4-0? Also, rumor has it that Mr. Rivers also owns the eight miles of abandoned Southern Railway trackage (yes, the tracks are still in place, though almost completely overgrown) between the end of the NS training center at Luella and Griffin. I've been told that at times Rivers has had certain stretches of track cleared off enough to run a speeder over them, at at one time had the notion of starting a tourist railroad down there. This is all hearsay, so I don't know for sure, but definitely a few interesting rumors.
