First off I would like to thank Tom Cornillie for posting the web sites on the Marquette&Huron threads. The one with the GB&W was great. I have seen many of the bridges and other pictures in the flesh as this is my backyard. Not a big railfan that studies intricate details on my own, but am glad others do so I can look at them and not have to work so hard at it.A number of years ago I was at a Amvets auction in Green Bay, Wi. While waiting for a paticular item to come up, I got to talking with a guy who had been at the GB&W shops auction a week earlier. He told me how few people had come and nobody bid on much of the larger RR machines and related stuff. He told me how the upholstery shop had been locked up or walled off when it was shut down, so it was completely intact, complete with inventory {many bolts of fabric, industrial sewing machines, ect}. I was not involved in RR restoration during this time and was out of any loop that might of known about it. Then a month ago or so I bought a compressor from a guy who's security company had the contract for security of the shops after they were closed down. He had a very nice old {and heavy} car jack that he wouldn't part with. It had came from the shops. That re-peaked my interest in the auction. I can only imagine what was scrapped or thrown out. Of all the auctions I have been too, that is one I would of given anything to have attended. I live only 25 miles from there, so I could of made more then one trip hauling stuff home. More iron to attract lightening with. So the million dollar question is, was anybody that hangs out here on RYPN at this auction? What was saved, what was lost? Maybe some of the IRM guys made it here, don't think Mid Continent people came or even knew about it? Thanks, John. "This is only temporary, unless it works" {Red Green}
