Anyone see the photo on page 45 of this month's TRAINS? Note the sight feed lubricator plumbed to the snifter boss. What is this all about? Is it a substitute for a mechanical lubricator?

I just got my magazine today and that is certainly an interesting lubricator. I do not see a mechanical lubricator and judging from the direction the line comes from I suspect the engine has a hydrostatic lubricator. I am not sure what they are doing but would have to guess it is a suppliment to the hydrostatic lubricator. I would not think that little lubricator would have the capacity to be a substitute for a main lubricator, at least not for long. If it were acting as the main lubricator I would think they would have plumbed it to the tee fitting the hydrostatic uses to enter the valve chest. I think it may just lubricate the sniffer. Anyone else have a guess?John Bohon
