Well Bob, I would have been happier if they had erected the fence far enough away from the little engine that people couldn't reach it with their arms and cause damage to it, as I had speced when i first did the restoration. The loss of the wooden structures at the works was pretty much done by nature before the remaining metal and brick structures were demolished. The erecting shop was in poor condition, but could have been saved. The laboratory and records building was in good condition, and could have been easily saved, as well as the brick 'Sawtooth" warehouse that ran across the rear of the property. There hasn't been much of anything built on the property, certainly it seems to me the county could have used the warehouse for its own storage needs? The loss of the majority of the corporate records, some which dated back to the reconstruction era, as well as a lot of the tooling, patterns, etc, was more tragic. The pittance which remains in Kennesaw, in far more sterile condition than appropriate, barely starts to tell the story........Dave |
