Just wondering what happened to the parts removed from this elderly 2-8-0 when it was restored to original appearance at Topeka? Not sure how many of them might be usable on other incomplete locomotives, but some might. I think the previous tender went to the Smoky Hill group just south of Kansas City, but wonder about the pilot truck, smokebox front, appliances, etc.. Anyone know?

Most of the unused parts from the modified components were trucked back to the KSHS in Topeka from the Western Railroad Service restoration shop in Sonora, CA. I think the only major parts not to return were the pilot wheels, which are of a split/bolted tired type that is likely illegal now. We had to replace with faux paper-core pilot wheels (and a blind #1 driver tire if you can believe that!). I doubt it lasted in service that way for long in 1880.
