OK, got the whole database, going back to the first post on April 14, 1998 online. It's pretty cool, and the whole archive is searchable by word. The author search won't work on the pre PHPBB posts because the authors all made it thru the conversion process as guests, and although there are a few where the author's are clearly the same as those now registered in the current user database, there are too many orphan posts and it's too much trouble to try and link them all. That's the good news. The bad news is I can't get the consolidated database to recognize the MODERATORS. So, for the moment we don't have any MODERATORS, but lest you think it's party time the site admins are still working and they will serve as moderators until the glitch is fixed. Everything else seems to be working great. However, there is an off chance the underlying MODERATOR recognition problem signifies something seriously wrong with the database and we'll have to try the database merge again later. In that case the posts made between the last back up and the time we delete the consolidtaed database will be lost. But, hopefully the MODERATOR problem can be fixed and we can proceed from this point with the whole archive going back almost 6 years. So, will keep you updated as things progress. And, make me feel like this was worth doing, go look up some of your old posts. You can find them using the search function and word search. Hume Kading |

Hume, my man-- this is terrific. It's a dream come true. I just did as you suggested and searched for certain of my own favorite rants (try "younger" AND "volunteers" if you want to see me ride my hobby-horse) and was thrilled to see them pop right up. I also have a huge "mental file" of posts by others that have made a deep impression on me, and its always been frustrating not to be able to root them out again when I needed to see the ideas again. A thousand thanks to you for all the work you put into this, and to Amherst Railway Society for the grant that helped make it possible. I think this is a huge milestone in RyPN's maturation--a lot of wisdom is collected here, and now accessible to those who need it. Best, Erik |

I've got a pretty good idea why the moderators things aren't working. I'll call Hume tonight to explain. |

Thanks for your efforts making all previous posts to the RyPN Interchange accessible via the search function. I’ve been looking forward to its implementation for some time. The collective wisdom is a tangible asset to preservation endeavors and an outstanding feature of this online magazine's dedication to railway history and preservation. Well done. |
