Arcata & Mad River Shay 7, during its brief operation hauling tourists. I understand the A&MR trackage (out of Eureka, California)was salvaged a few years ago. Is that correct? http://cgi.ebay.com/1900s-THE-GENERAL-L ... dZViewItem |

Bob- Yes, you have the wrong link there...this one brings up a Western & Atlantic locomotive. To answer your question...A&K Railroad Materials scrapped the A&MR trackage in November and December 1997. I've heard differing stories on why this was done...one story had the North Coast Railroad Authority selling the rails to meet payroll, another story A&K taking the trackage to settle an unpaid debt the NCRA owed them. At any rate the North Coast Railroad quit the old A&MR in the later part of 1993 due to bad track conditions and no money available for improvements. Jeff Moore Elko, NV |
