While I have been sitting here reading about the 3 new acquisitions by the Heeber Valley Railroad of former K&K, nee DL&W cars, and the sale of the 50 ton unit, I wonder what is going to become of the other equipment. Not only do the passenger cars draw some interest, including the few remaining operable LIRR ping pong cars, but they have 2 steam locomotives that are worth something...one being the former Huntington & Broad Top Mt Railroad 2-8-0 #38 and of course the Chinese 2-8-2. Considering what is happening to Mr. Hearts operations now, 3 are closed passenger wise - Railtours, Stewertstown, and Knox & Kane, what is going to become of these loco's along with the CP 4-6-0 that was in operation up in Jim Thorpe until a few years ago. Anyone with any thoughts or knowledge on this? |

I don't think George Hart had anything to do with Knox and Kane. If I remember correctly it was the Cornell family. |

The only equipment that the Knox & Kane has offered for sale were the five Lackawanna MUs (all sold), the 50-ton Porter diesel (sold), a couple of cabooses, and a few other odds & ends. The steam engines and other passenger equipment are not for sale. Alan Maples |

Alan Maples said, "The equipment that the Knox & Kane offered for sale were ... a couple of cabooses ..." Hi Alan, Which cabooses are/were offered for sale? There were 6 or so cabooses associated with the K&K in Kane, Kinzua, Knox, and Marienville, PA, mostly ex-PRR cabin cars. Thanks, Roger |

One was a steel PRR car and the other was a NYC bay window car, but I don't know the numbers. Unless they have sold recently, both are still available. Alan Maples |

D'oh! Yes Tom, you are correct. I don't know why I associated Mr Hart with the K&K....that always has been a Sloan operation since moving it's equipment from Mt. Penn to K&K and Gettysburg. |

To further add to the inquiries............. I've been reminded that K&K/KK&K had an Alco S6 diesel, their #44 (which I believe was former South Buffalo 44, and MAY have also had a former WM chop-nose GP9. (I seem to recall the latter bringing up the other end of my train to Kinzua in 1989.) Any word/ideas on these? I had a party contact me looking for both of these locos. |

Hello Sandy... Keep your hands off our S6! Just some friendly joking, the K&K 44 is now DL 1044. It was purchased by the DL/GVT for use here in Scranton somewhere in the neighborhood of 2002 maybe? Its currently on the "active" roster here. We're getting close to having one of every ALCo model, in every color of the rainbow no less... Dave Crosby |

Alan Maples said, "Two cabooses are/were offered for sale - a steel PRR car and a NYC bay window car." Hi, Making a wild guess, with attendant odds of being correct, I list steel, cupola, PRR 477768 (their camping cabin?) in Kizua, PA, and steel, bay window, RR? #? (the NYC?) in Marienville, PA. Does anyone know if the 2 above are the 2 that are/were for sale? Or, at least, the numbers of the 2 for sale/sold? Didn't a couple of wood, cupola, PRR/GETY Class N6B cabooses from Gettysburg, PA, end up in Kane, PA, or at least somewhere on the K&K? Thanks, Roger |
