With the exception that this particular locomotive is one of the most popular locomotive designs ever created, that it was brought back from near death once, and was believed to have been nearly restored once during this metamorphasis.
That being said, and all due praise accorded to those involved and supporting the K4s restoration, I'd like to raise everyones eyes toward another Pennsy design rebirth.
Please note that Long Island Rail Road G5s #39 is in the midst of her complete operational restoration as I post this. Her boiler is being attended to as are her running gear and frame. The tender has just been completed and awaits return for mounting on the Kiesel trucks. She'll be an oil burner when fired, in accordance to demands made by the NY EPA, but who's complaining? I encourage each and every PRR/LIRR enthusiast to get behind this restoration in any way that feel they can. The Railroad Museum of Long Island welcomes support in terms of whatever dedicated fans can muster. Replacement marker lights are needed, and a few other "details", but otherwise, she's in good shape.
