Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a drawing of a locomotive inspector's hammer, I know I have seen a drawing recently, but mental clutter precludes me from remembering where. Thanks and Happy New Year to all!

There was an article on a Locomotive Inspector's hammer in a recent issue of Classic Trains magazine. I think it may have been last year.

I did not see the Classic Trains article, but I think such hammers were a common first project for the machinist apprentices, just as bars and wrenches were for the blacksmith apprentices.

I have locomotive machinist's inspection hammer which is a reproduction. The hammer used for this hammer belonged to Frank Troge. Frank was a machinist at the Pere Marquette Saginaw Roundhouse. Frank told me that when he started his machinists apprenticeship he was sent back to the machine shop in the round house and they made him his hammer. If you really want to make a hammer I might be talked into making a drawing.

Let me know what you plan to do with the drawing and we can go from there.

The drawing in Classic Trains (Spring 2004, pg. 94) is quite readable. I was thinking along the lines of making a few up for Christmas gifts for next year. Best start drying the hickory soon! Thanks everyone for your help!
