Union RR 0-10-2 - old BLW magazine article

From 1936. No. 304 still exists in western Pennsylvania. Huge switcher for ore handling. This is on the Union RR Yahoo group, so requires joining, a brief 5-minute exercise.

Bob,

There is one other Union Railroad steam engine in existance. That would be 0-6-0 number 77 at the Big Southfork Scenic Railroad in Stearns Ky.

It came from Tombstone Junction with the 77 number and before that it came from the Morehead and North Fork Railroad as number 14. My understanding is that it will become Kentucky and Tennessee number 14.

The engine is being completely overhauled with a new entire firebox, flue, and tube sheets. It also gets a new tendertank.

Wow, I am impressed with the scope of work done that huge 0-6-0. That looks like a pretty complete overhaul. Congrats to all involved.

Is it a prerequisite that all locomotive shops seem dark as a dungeon? I couldn't help but notice the atmosphere looks very much like where I usually end up working. Wouldn't trade it for the world, besides this last year most of my work was outside, any concrete floor and roof combination would of been an improvement. And as I think of it, the lighting was much better outside anyway. Best of new years folks, John.
