Does anyone have any information on a wreck, somewhere in the era of about 1958-1964, right in the heart of the Wabash yard at Springfield, Illinois? I vaguely remember seeing it (and being amazed at the rails looped up and over a couple of F-units on their sides), but I cannot put a date to it nor have I found any other information (these senior moments are coming more and more often...). Any info would be appreciated. Kevinmccabe@avenew.com |

There is a report for Gibson City, but nothing for Springfield in the time period you mentioned. http://specialcollections.tasc.dot.gov/ bebackus@bellsouth.net |

I know it was in Springfield, 'cause it was just a few miles from my home, and I can pin it down to a time long before I was driving, but beyond that I just can't remember any details (and when my "dear" sister cleaned out my mom's house, she tossed all of my old photos, etc, including ones of that wreck, since as she put it, "it was just train junk". I still think I have a shot at a plea of justifiable homicide...). Kevinmccabe@avenew.com |
