From Flimsies, plans for a rail-trail apparently derailed for now. Is this the standard gauge Tweetsie line they're talking about? I understand it has been mostly dormant for a while. http://www.tricities.com/servlet/Satell ... calnews&s= |

No, that is a lead from the old Clinchfield depot out toward East Tennessee State University. I understand that CSX may be having some transoading business they want to use it for. East Tennessee Railway is doing all the CSX Johnson City switching now. The railroad is still intact all the way to Elizabethton but nothing is going on. There was a deal in place for the city/county governments to buy it out, but since Rail Link bought out Rail Management I don't think it is still on the table. |
