Can anyone recommend a casting facility willing to do low volume (1-2) locomotive parts in ductile iron and/or bronze?

This is dependent on the foundry however, which casting method is the most practical? Sand, lost foam or lost wax?

The appropriate patterns will need to be made.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I'm not an expert on foundry work, but I don't think you need to be too choosy if you're just casting something like a bushing or bearing. We have had small parts made in "gun iron," various bearing bronzes, aluminum and steel, and never needed to use any source more sophisticated than the yellow pages to find a foundry. Of course, we're in Detroit, so things may be different in a non-industrial place. My guess would be that any foundry can make your parts if you're satisfied that the person you talk with there understands what you want and seems to be confident he wants to do a short-run part. I would expect you'll use wood for the pattern or one of the modern replacements: polyester resin or stacked cardstock from a CAD plotter equipped with a knife for this application.

Acheson Foundry in Chattanooga, TN, does excellent work with cast irons and cast steels. They use the sand casting method. Message me if you need more information.

Badger Iron in Menomonee, WI does all kinds of grey,ductile and is a Meeinite (Sp,) foundry. Or send it out to Uhrich Locomotive in Strasburg, Colorado. They do castings for the Silverton and C&TTS in grey iron.

The Tod Engine Works does casting in ductile iron and brass, among other metals. The income generated goes toward the preservation of their 4,000 horsepower stationary steam engine and other projects of the non-profit Tod Engine Foundation.
