Dear Friends of Railway Preservation:

I have received the extremely sad news from Aaron Isaacs (editor of ARM's Railway Museum Quarlerly) that his dad, George Isaacs, one of the founders of The Minnesota Transportation Museum in 1963, and a strong supporter of the new Minnesota Streetcar Museum, has passed on to that great Twin City Lines streetcar station in the sky.

Many of you who read this post knew George personally. For those of you who didn't know George, he was a tireless volunteer leader at the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line, located in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Southwest Minneapolis. He helped build the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line in the late 1970s. He was the leader in all the streetcar restorations accomplished by the museum from the 1970s through the beginning of the 21st century. His crowning achievement, and his legacy to the people of Minnesota and the US, was the superb restoration of the classic art-deco PCC streetcar No. 322 that Twin City Lines operated from 1946 until 1953. Sold to another transit system in 1953, George personnally arranged for the return of No. 322 to Minnesota in 1992 and managed and led the team of volunteers that restored this streetcar to its as-built glory. No. 322 is generally recognized throughout the railway museum ”industry” as the most complete restoration of an all-steel streamlined streetcar undertaken by any all-volunteer museum in the country.
