The INSIDE EMD plant tour slide program has been discussed several times in the past on RyPN. After several people asked recently about showings of the program and lecture for 2006, I realized that I probably did not get around to posting any follow up information here! Sorry about that!

This year I do not have any vacation time available at all to support showings, so it appeared that the best choice would be to set the program aside and concentrate on some newer projects that are being shown to groups close to home. These do not require vacation time for travel. Consequently there are no showings of INSIDE EMD planned for 2006.

INSIDE EMD and the collection it came from are safely archived and perhaps someday in the future when there is more vacation time available and (hopefully) lower priced gasoline too, I can get back to doing presentations of this slide and lecture program again. My thanks to all the organizations who hosted the many showings done over the past three years.

Have you considered making a video of your presentation?

Fred, thanks for your comment. This has been requested a number of times but there are some problems with doing either a videotape or book version of the program. It has a very large number of previously unpublished images (well over 400 in the presentation) of manufacturing and locomotive assembly in the plant, including many that were given to me by friends in Public Relations, Sales, and Service over several decades. Showing this as part of an educational lecture as a professional instructor in the railroad industry falls under one area of copyright law, publishing it in videotape or book form falls under another. I have looked into what permissions would be needed and it appears that it would be a potentially drawn out and expensive undertaking. Consequently it has been much simpler over the last couple years to keep it as a "live" slide and lecture program and transport it to the audiences.
