Dear Christian:
No. 40 is still in the shop.
We have formed a new door sheet (heating & beating method) and have it nearly fit up to the existing crown sheet and upper side sheets. Once it has been fitted and secured with fitup bolts and a few tack welds, we will fit up the new 1/2 side sheets. Once these have been fit, we will transfer the locations of the staybolt hole to the new sheets, remove them, drill the holes for the stays and rivets and put them back in, secured with fitup bolts and tack welds. Once this has been done, we will tap some holes and install some staybolts prior to welding the seams. Once the seams have been welded, the rest of the staybolts and rivets will be installed at which point we can get everything caulked up and hydroed.
Much of the ashpan wants renewal/modification.
The trailing truck has been rebuilt and is ready to install once the ashpan is in.
The cab is in need of minor repairs prior to reinstallation along with the insulation, jacket and piping, etc.
It is our fondest hope to have it done prior to summer...

There are several of us at A&R that are very glad to hear the 40 is progressing well. We still keep track of her. I will pass the word around. Thanks for all the work you are doing on our old hog.
