While this looks to be a good program, it would have been better if an 'engineering type' from the industry had been included.

A certain well-known, very prolific author and published photographer, who is also a diesel locomotive technical engineering person with 30+ years in the biz, comes to mind. No, I'm not thinking of Jim Boyd. (no disrespect meant, JB!!)

This conference is a fine idea with lots of potential, something that has been needed for a long time. Hopefully it will be very successful and they will continue to improve and expand it in future years.

I find that much of the preservation community is unaware that the people who worked for the locomotive builders during the the dieselization of the steam railroads are almost totally gone now, and many of the folks who were involved in 2nd generation diesel design and development in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s have passed away too.

Two of my closest friends who worked at EMD, Glenn Monhart and Mark Lagomarcino, would have been superb speakers to have at an event like this. Sadly they have both passed away.

Mike Iden, the keynote speaker, has been involved in the development of the Union Pacific's gen-set switchers.
