So what does TVRM have now in the way of operable and inoperable motive power---excluding static museum pieces? I visited there in early spring 1998. I rode in the cab of their ex-Army Alco diesel. Steam was not running yet. Sou #4501 was off making a commercial or movie. Shop facilities looked impressive. Didn't TVRM get an ex-Army steam locomotive from Texas State RR some years ago? Is that 610? > I just saw pics of the 610 after her > overhaul. She looks terrific! For anyone who > reads this board and works with TVRM... No, it was #611, another "S-160", but with Franklin Rotary poppet valves instead of the usual slide vales. The TSRR acquired it in the hopes of restoring, but it was too far gone. It was traded for some coaches. Surviving World Steam Locomotives james1@pernet.net |

At the moment, we have one steam locomotive (ex-USA 610), one GP-7L and two RSD-1s in operable condition. The 4501 is stored out of service under cover, one GP-7L is being returned to service (currently under repair), not much progress on any of the E or F units and at least nine months before another steam locomotive comes back on line. 630 and the 10 are in the shop with 5288 in the yard and the 611 rusting in peace in the back forty for the time being. envlink@voyageronline.net |

Yes, another glowing report from TVRM's unofficial spokesman, Alan Walker. I suggest you follow Steam Central or our own website for updates. Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum aw90h@cs.com |

I could be wrong, but I think the poppet valve army 2-8-0 is the same one used in trial on the old Maryland and Pennsylvania in the 40's. If so, you guys have the only MA & PA steamer existant! by the way, I heard plans to work on the old Talbotton/C of G eight wheeler a while back. Will she be worked on after the current slate of overhauls/maintenance is done? |
