Though lettered Southern, this Mikado at Camilla, Georgia is actually Albany & Northern 9, from one of the Pidcock shortlines. It originally hauled logs for Brooks Scanlon at Foley, Florida.

And sister Pidcock road Georgia, Ashburton, Sylvester & Camilla 100, a larger Mikado, at Sylvester, Georgia:

If you notice the red tank just left of center in the photo of Albany & Northern 9, it is an air compressor that was set up so one could blow the whistle. I don't know if it has ever been operated, but I'm sure someone at some time has managed to blow that whistle. Of course it has been set up this way since the early 1990's, so it may not work any more. The builder's plates were "relieved" of the engine during it's restoration. At least I got photos before they disappeared.

Also notice the apparently permanant Christmas lights on GAS&C 100. Seems they are too difficult to take off and reinstall each year! This is a sweet little locomotive, and would make a great excursion engine...well, I can dream can't I? Her bigger (and slightly older) sister, Georgia Northern 105, is on display in Moultrie, Georgia. And, of course, Ex FEC 4-6-2 No. 88, Georgia Northern 107, is at Thronateeska Heritage Center in Albany. Four Pidcock Lines steam locomotives on display within about 45 miles of each other!
