There are 4 pieces of rr equipment for auction on the government liquidation site. One is a 45 ton siderod GE and the others are 3 40 foot flatcars built in 1929. Personally, I think these would be neat for photo freights or shipping displays or even MOW service. Anyway, here's the link. I hope somone can save them...

I know exactly where these flat cars are.

You'd have to be pretty desperate to try and get these things out. Lots of room for the cranes, however. And if someone is in need of 1929-vintage trucks, well, here ya goes............ Paging Mid-Continent and IRM........

Looking at these photos, these are odd, odd flatcars; not revenue service cars at all, more like special steel mill cars. Wonder how they determined they are ex C&NW? Markings on the trucks perhaps? Used trucks, maybe?

If you look closely in one of the pictures you will see a car number USN 61-00607. If there is a number on them and they are still in government inventory they have the records on who, what, when and where when it comes to equipment. Looking at the pictures these cars were built for the Navy Shipyards most likely and could well be from WW II era and very well could have been built in the CNW car shop. The cars themselves are no find but someone needs to grab the trucks, couplers, and all brake rigging and accessories from these cars for use in restoration of other freight equipment. We have done this at our location and now have located several vintage car bodies worth bringing into our collection.
