Does anyone have a decent photo of the interior of this coach circa 1906?

Is this car a sister to David Woodbury's B&M coach #1246?

No, but a close relative. If you can get the Pullman lot number. you should be able to get builders photos, interior and exterior for that lot, if not for the specific car, from either the Smithsonian or California Railroad Museum. Each institution has some but not all. Contact Ted Anderson at Illinois Railway Museum for plans and specs. Try looking for a stamped number on a clerestory window. Should be +/- 3000

Do you have the contact information for the Smithsonian Pullman photo collection? I know my lot #, plan #, and build date, car name, etc. I looked over their website and wan't able to figure out what specific collection they might be in. Search for Pullman didn't pull up anything either? Sounds as if you may know their system pretty well.

Thanks,

The Boston & Maine Railroad Historical Society Archives has several very good images of the B&M wooden coaches. I recall somebody posted images of a period B&M wooden car interior on Rypn sometime ago; I thought it was associated with the B&M coach restoration article but when I went hunting for it, I didn't see it there. The Smithsonian and CSRM has Pullman photos and negs, respectively, and IRM has the drawings.

The Smithsonian contact is:
Smithsonian Institution
National Museum of American History
Division of Transportation, Room 5010
Washington, DC 20560
the new telephone number is 202-633-1933

For photos, contact Dave Burgevin, Museum Specialist
voice: 202-633-3764
Photographic Archives, Image Sales
Smithsonian Photographic Services
NMAH, Rm. CB-033
Washington, DC 20560-0644

You will need to know the following information
B&M car 1211 is part of the order for cars 1204-1223,
Pullman Lot 3269, Plan 2060

David Woodbury's car is part of the lot 3512 for cars 1224-1253,
Plan 2060A

There was an earlier order, lot number 3168 in 1905 also for Plan 2060,
for cars 1183-1202.

So the interior appointments may be similar. The photo collection listing for the California State Railroad Museum is found on the web site under the Library, Pullman Cars.

We are getting more info on these cars all the time as I am collating the wood car drawings 1890 to 1910. The Newberry Library's Pullman Collection in Chicago has office records on the B&M cars and there are a few gems there on their construction.
Sincerely, Ted Anderson, IRM Pullman Library

Some questions I should have asked, but didn't. Is this a Steamtown coach bought by Strasburg in the 60s? Is it the Clark's Trained Bears car or something else? How much rebuilding has it already undergone?

If you are interested in more than photos, we have the original specifications, the drawing list, and floor plan drawing of the car, plus a few miscellaneous drawings. Contact us by e-mail or by letter to the Pullman Library as shown below.
Sincerely, Ted Anderson
