Some early results from pouring through the slides I got back today... though everything was shot in color, I'm in a black and white kind of mood...

Really nice, Erik -- thanks for sharing. Is that the fireman stepping forward with a scoop of coal in the first photo? Between that, and catching her "rods down," makes that one my favorite. They're ALL nice however! Stephen |

Thank YOU, Stephen--coming from you that means a lot. Yes, the N&W Ms are deckless engines, with the backhead located at the very rear of the cab, so that's the fireman there on the tender deck with scoop in hand. |

The going away shot is my favorite! Great shots all around. Thanks for sharing. |

The shot with the tank car is fantastic. It took a ton of paper work to get it there, but it was sure worth it. Fantastic. J.R. May |

When Venezia showed up with it ("Here ya go!"), I said, Oh great, another mouth to feed. But Mike knew better; she's the tank car of my dreams ... |

It really is the platonic ideal of a tank car. I got curious about just who the Tidewater Oil Company was--it wasn't a familiar name to me. I found a servicable corporate history here: http://www.royalpetroleum.com/aboutUs.php Turns out Tidewater was an East Coast company that fell under control of a J. Paul Getty-owned west coast refiner, Associated. On the East Coast they kept the Tidewater brand name consumers knew, but introduced Associated's flying A logo. |

If you go to http://www.njmt.org/tidewatertankcars.htm you'll see the history of the Tidewater cars as well as the history of Tidewater and the Flying A. J.R. |

OK. I am confused. Is the tank car part of Strasburg's freight fleet or on loan? Wesley |

Was Mike the person who donated the car to you? If so, I say thank you Mike! Les |

Mike Venezia is a noted East Coast specialist in trucking transit and railroad equipment; he's the preferred shipping and rigging specialist for many historic railroads and museums out this way. |

It is Strasburg's. Not a loan. And they have done a great job with it. J.R. |
