Videos on www.steamlocomotive.info have always been a moderate pain in the butt, but I think we have a decent solution in place now, and before I re-encode all the videos, I'd sure appreciate some feedback. Here's the URL for PRR 1361's video.

http://www.steamlocomotive.info/vidlocomotive.cfm?display=1005

These videos require the Macromedia Flash plugin for your browser, and if you don't have it, it should prompt you to allow it to install. The video is encoded three different ways:

High speed: assumes you have a broadband connection of at least 500Kbs
Medium: assumes you have a broadband connection of at least 200Kbs
Dial-Up: assumes you're connected via 56K dialup

The system assumes high speed connection. If you want to change it, go to the home page, click on Custom Views and select your speed, then click submit. A cookie which contains nothing but your speed choice is stored on your computer when you do this.

Let me know what kind of problems crop up. I've tested with IE and Firefox and had pretty good luck.

Thanks for any help.
Regards,
Doug

Doug, just tried it going through my AOL browser (known to be the most persnickety of all!) and it worked GREAT.

Post subject:  They did not work for me

My computer usually plays video clips ok, but they did not work for me. Any idea of what I might need to play them?

These are posted as Shockwave Movies. You need the Flash plugin to display them. If you don't have it, it is supposed to prompt you to install it.

I'll do some more testing.

If the movie hasn't yet been updated, all you'll get is a white blank next to the locomotive photo. I'm going to update a half dozen more this afternoon/evening.
