The above captioned engine was once the centerpiece of a planned torist operation in Allentown, PA.

Last I heard it was California bound. Whatever became of this engine? Is there some hope for it or.....

Is the victim of the I want it, I bought it, I got it.... now what the heck do I do with it (aka the BLE 643) syndrome

The 2839 had been undergoing restoration work in Pennsylvania as had been mentioned, when work was stopped as the engine was sold to the founders of Mearle Norman Cosmetics, she was transported across country on flatcars and is now undergoing or almost having a cosmetic restoration finished which includes a stainless steel boiler jacket like her troubled BC Rail sister 2860 and is on display at the Nethercutt Collection of Cars (go figure?! in Smyrna??, California.

The Nethercutt Museum is in Sylmar, California, which is just north of Los Angeles. The main focus of their collection is cars but they also have an extensive collection of mechanical musical instruments. i.e. a Wurlitzer Theater Organ.

One of our club members builds reproduction pressure gauges, and he has an amazing list of clients. I talked to him when he was calibrating a gauge for the 2839; all the gauges will be calibrated and will work, even though the plans are for a static restoration.

I found that encouraging, as that does leave the door open for a full restoration in the future.

> The Nethercutts will (I'm sure as anyone who is familiar with their restorations will tell you) do an absolutely excellent job on Canadian Pacific 2839. Their collection is open to the public. All that is necessary is a phone call. By the way, their WurliTzer theatre pipe organ (4 manuals and 74 ranks of pipes) is the largest on the West Coast. The collection of automatic musical instruments is unsurpassed anywhere.
