Yes, those Alco 16-251C diesel engines were also applied to the long extinct C-628 model. No news there...

What I found interesting was the fact that not only did NASA formally commemorate the 'birthday' of the crawler-but the successor to the crawler supplier sent personnel to the event.

Could anyone imagine EMD and any railroad doing the same for the 35 anniversary of the Dash 2 line-which BTW is next year.

The folks at NASA have a much greater awareness of their involvement in history than is the case with many people presently working in the railroad industry.

"Nothing ever built arose to touch the skies unless some man dreamed that it should, some man believed that it could, and some man willed that it must."............Charles F. Kettering

Charles F. Kettering and Alfred P. Sloan Jr. probably had more effect on the way railroads look and operate today than did any other individuals in the 20th century. Yet many railroad enthusiasts and people presently in the industry think they were doctors because a hospital is named for them.
