Im looking for some information about southern rwy engine 837. I have been buildin a n scale layout and used the 837 as the prototype for one of my 2-8-0's. I recently found some pics of her at a train show in asheville. Any information about the engine would be great, like builders date and number, scraping date, where she served on the system, and any thing else that might be interesting.

Tim,

The Southern Railway Historical Association ran a year-long series of articles on the K class engines in Ties Magazine, beginning with the November-December 1994 issue. You may be able to buy back issues through the Association http://www.srha.net. Each shop on the Southern tended to apply their individual style to their assigned locomotives, so careful examination of the pictures may help you determine where the engine was based. The magazine articles addressed the various shop influences.

What Alan said. Get hold of Dale Roberts' writings on cosmetic details.

I have a photo Dale sent me of no. 834 in Selma - by chance is the Alabama photo there?

Or scan the front AND back of the photos and post them here, and we can dissect them together.
