I am pretty much aware of the small narrow gauge steam locomotives that are getting up steam these days.

As a follow up to the oldest engines running a while back, now I would like to discuss any small stand gauge locos that are in operation.

Locally, in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Pacific Locomotive has a 2-6-2 that is seeing a lot of miles.

As the new season comes to life in the rest of the United States, where should I look for steam this summer?

Thanks for your thoughts

Ted:

And as a bonus, LRR has a neat little 0-4-0T numbered 1, which is in steam on occassion too.

I am informed that little GOAT will be back in service pretty soon - Mr Lindsay and Mr Bensman have remade her into something better than Rogers built. How often she will be under steam, not yet published.

The little 4-4-0 at the Henry Ford is very diminutive, for a 4-4-0 that's standard guage. Of course it started life out as a Manchester 0-4-0. Actually this engine is getting all spiffed up with a new coat of paint for the new season and it'll look nice for a few days until the soot collects on it again.

Chris:

Are those hopper cars in the background owned by the Henry Ford museum? If so, how many are there?

yes those are property of The Henry Ford. There are two in the photo, three total on site. They are used for storage of coal for daily use, with an undercar conveyor and loader to load tenders. It keeps us from paying demurrage on a hopper.
