Post subject:  Looking for used bookmobile

Does anybody have any leads on a used bookmobile somewhere in the NE region? The Reading Co. Technical & Historical Society is currently in search of a worthy candidate to be used as a traveling museum. Any suggestions on other types of vehicles that have been modified for this purpose would also be appreciated.

Find an old REA delivery van. That would be historic in its own right. I think I saw on for sale on Railswap a few months ago, but I am not sure.

The only problem with using an historic piece of equipment is that we would have to greatly alter it to suit our needs. Also, a bookmobile has both an entrance and exit, which would allow us to smoothly move people through the exhibits. Good suggestion though.

I believe Pullman built rubber tired busses - perhaps an old, gutted Pullman city bus could be made operational and retrofit inside?

I'm not sure Pullman built motor buses; trackless trolleys, yes. In any event, such a vehicle would be a historic artifact itself.

SEPTA recently retired its 35-foot 1984 Neoplans (I saw one of them moving yesterday)and these seem to approach what you want. BARTA or LANTA may have something too. You might want a bus with a wheelchair lift for ADA compliance.

Thanks, Dave and Phil.

Bus might work better because of 2 entrances.

Will pass the info on.
