I got several reports of Interchange malfunctions this morning.

Whatever was wrong it seems to be working now.

Let me know if that's not true for everyone.

A denial-of-service attack was attempted against the Interchange early this morning. Our intrusion detection system stopped the attacker within about 3 minutes, but left the database server with 45,000 outstanding requests for a single message in the Interchange.

The database server ran out of memory and crashed. Modifications to the database server's configuration to prevent this have been performed and tested, and an additional 2 GB of RAM added to the database server at 6 a.m. this morning.

In any case, if you find the Interchange down, please do feel free to call our emergency tech support hotline at 612-418-0307 24x7. That's a cell phone carried by whichever network administrator has the after hours phone duty. He, she or it will be happy to attempt to assist you. Please reserve calls to this line for real emergencies, such as complete outtages.
