The Canadian Trackside Guide lists a Vulcan 0-4-0 built for the Lehigh Valley Coal Company and then used of the Huntsville & Lake of Bays. It lists the current location as Santa Clarita Historical Society in CA.

Is this lokie really there?

The mention of Lehigh Valley Coal #99 in Taylor, PA got me to thinking. Jim Hefner has #99 being built by LVC.

Just how many LVC lokies are left?

Mine lokies are still being uncovered... one was dug out of a coal bank near Mount Carbon, PA last year. A big shovel will find one in Wanamie, too.

The Kepner collection as the last known DL&W mine lokie.

I'd love to find out more about the supposed LVC engine in CA!

Rob,I looked all over the site in Wanamie,PA last year for the engine you mention, but couldn't find a trace of it or of a railroad that it ran on.I know the site is now a superfund cleanup area, and they seemed to be doing a good job on it.What is the wheel arrangement/size of the loco,and just where the heck is that thing?

Actually, they have a Lehigh Coal and Navigation locomotive. Not a Wanamie engine. The L.C. & N. engine is from Lansford, Pa . and is engine No. 51
It was displayed for many years at the Pine Creek railroad at Allaire State Park in New Jersey. It is, however, a Vulcan. The Pine Creek also had two locos from the Wanamie mine, but they were sold to private ownership several years ago. The engine at Easton is a 4' gauge locomotive, which is quite rare, but not unheard of in Pennsylvania mining operations.

Oooops! My boo boo. THe Vulcan in CA is not a steam engine, but is Lehigh Valley Coal.

The Wanamie engine under the culm in Wanamie was southeast of the engine house.

Perhaps it is gone?

The other Wanamie engines, as we discussed, are in Iowa and Oregon.
