Post subject:  ex-M&StL 457

When owned by and in use at the American Crystal Sugar factory in Mason City, Iowa. Its currently under restoration in the park there, with funds being raised for a shelter.

Number 457 was built by Alco in 10/1912. That engine is nearly identical to Don Lind's #471 at Annandale, MN. Number 471 was built by Baldwin for the Iowa Central as #429 in 12/1910.

There was also another M&StL 2-8-0, #452, that was sold to Crystal Sugar at the same time as #457, and that engine worked at Crystal Sugar at Chaska, MN, during the beet season, up until about 1959. Coincidentally, Chaska was the home of the Klein brickyard where #471 sat for years waiting for Don Lind to come along and buy it.
