Map program which some consider better than Terraserver. This one shows the old UP roundhouse at Hugo, Colorado, but you can search for others at the bottom:

Yard tracks and wye were removed years ago, however.

And the turntable at Oberlin, Kansas, still in place last I knew. It turned rebuilt CB&Q 4-4-2s on the end of this branch as late as 1952. There was once a rickety two-stall enginehouse there also. The whole yard, which had only six or seven switches, would make an interesting model scene.

Bob,

We know you are interested in Roundhouses and other railroad structures.

Is there a web site devoted to such things?

Or do you have to prowl among the individual railroad historical society sites?

What is the oldest round house in the country? THe building that houses the B&O Museum?

Post subject:  No roundhouse website

Sorry, Ted. I don't know of any roundhouse website, though the NRHS station/structure list has some listed. Prowling the web is the usual method of finding them. Using Yahoo or Google, it usually helps to type in the name of the town first, then "roundhouse". Usually a couple of roundhouses fall each year, swith scarcely a mention or concern from our ranks. Not sure which is the oldest, but the two B&O houses, at Baltimore and Martinsburg, must be about the oldest extant. The Baltimore roundhouse was a carshop, not used for locomotives until the B&O Museum took it over.
