Just a nice 1995 pre-disassembly photo of this much-traveled Mikado, which is believed to have operated in Oregon, California, North Carolina and Connecticut. Does anyone have links to photos of it on the Portland, Astoria & Pacific, Minarets & Western or Aberdeen & Rockfish? No. 40 also has a twin in British Columbia, originally built for the PA&P. A third was bought in the 1950s by the Yreka Western, but deemed too hard on the track and scrapped about 1955.

I do not know about on the web but I do have copies of a couple of photos of the 40 in service on the A&R. The 40's oil bunker which the A&R mounted on a frame and used as a used oil storage tank was scrapped about 10 years ago in a general clean up of the shop. Generally speaking the 40 was considered the best steam engine on the A&R.
