Folks,

I have come across a nicely done website for this small town (Northeast of Sacramento, CA preservation group.

When the Southern Pacific Transportation Company closed their Woodland Depot (built 1912) about 1980 they planned to bulldoze the building.

Today it has been moved a couple of hundred feet and nicely restored on the outside and the interior is not too far behind.

The Society is closely connected with the local short line and they have leased several pieces of equipment to the group.

Their SP 1233 an 0-6-0 had been sitting in a locol park and she has been restored to operation.

It has not been easy for the group, after arranging for a new space to display the City decided they wanted to put an office park in the same place this stalled things for quite a while.

Woodland is an interesting farm community gettng caught up in the urbanization of communities near larger urban centers (in this case Sacramento). It has a neat downtown from a hundred years ago. While the old Sacramento Northern interurban depot is gone, the new building on its site looks very much like the old depot.

It is also home to a combined museum for two similar but different preservation groups -- one is old farm equipment and tractors and the other is highway trucks. There are two parallel wings to in this facility -- the Heidrick Ag History Centerin one and the Hays Antique Truck Museum in the other. It is also a couple of blocks from where you will find the 0-6-0 stored.
