Any of these preserved?

I was going through some shots, and found a couple of this unit. Just out of curiosity, were any of these preserved?? Looks like someone stuck 2 ALCO/MLW FPA's together back to back and stuck a coupe pantographs on them. Rather neat looking, but probably, like so many other things, no longer in existence.

None survived that I know of, though I seem to remember an attempt to save on in the late-1960s. The closest examples outside of Lionel are the double-ended electrics used on Netherlands State Railways (probably all retired by now), plus some broad-gauge similar examples in Chile. The Dutch units used the same trucks, with spoked wheels

Former New Haven EP5's, otherwise known as "Jets". They were the locomtives assigned to hot passenger trains into Grand Central until the merger. All went to the torch, inspite of the proposal for the LIRR to buy at least one and station it outside the East River tunnels as a "protect" engine. Saving at least one in the McGinnis era NH red, white, and black, harlequin paint would have been good.

OH boy, a real open wound for some of us in the Southern New England area.

About 1977-78, a certain fallen-flag group undertook a preservation campaign to buy one from Conrail ($25K) and cosmetically restore it and display it at an appropriate museum/tourist road in its old operating area. The sanitized story is this: the money was largely raised and pledged, two established places turned it down as "inappropriate" for their "mission", and both became razorblades. The "Jet story" and its rebound resulted in much better representation of NH diesel power being preserved just a few years later.

LIRR was somewhat interested for use as third rail power for East River tunnel service. The scrapper, Napaorano, wanted $100K each, once they knew LIRR was the interested party. No sale.
