In the comments about 2-8-0 # 556, it is stated that some of these ARR locomotives were shipped to Spain where they are still in operation. I assume that this is no longer true and that these engines were all subsequently scrapped. Does anyone know for sure? There were some other classes of ARR steamers shipped over there, including one of the last 4-6-2 Pacifics built and also some 2-8-2's I beleve.

I think we've discussed this before here, but not too much information has surfaced. I think the engines were shipped about 1958, and there apparently was a standard gauge railway there, though most of Spain and Portugal are wide or metre gauge. Perhaps someone more versed in European operations can tell us more. The engines must have run into the 1960s, at least.
