Just the cab and backhead of this one survived, originally saved by a woman in Bennington, Vermont for her children to play on. Over the years, it went to Edaville, then to Steamtown in Vermont. Did it survive the last cleanup there?

Dear Bob:
Yes and no! We stripped useable parts out of the cab to keep for spares. The backhead/firebox section and some of the cab were left behind when we moved and taken by the Green Mountain Railroad for possible use as a display. The last time I saw it, it was in the remains of a shep at the former Steamtown site.

Certainly a strange preservation. But there have been others. The one I remember is the town in southern Illinois (Dupo perhaps?) that was offered a Missouri Pacific 1-class 2-8-0. Supposedly the town didn't want the whole thing and saved only the FRONT END! It was cut perhaps at the back of the cylinders and that portion plastered against a stone wall of some type as a memorial to the steam age. I guess it was better than nothing. I don't know if it is still there or not.
