Did somebody hack into this thread? I saw it yesterday and did not notice the typos or the simplified language.

Maybe I'm just losing it............

I don't know about the typos, maybe Martin hadn't had his morning cup of coffee yet, but the opening is indeed for real. We need somebody, and the sooner the better. So speak up if you know anyone.

I wish I was in a position to apply - the rolling stock is a fascinating collection to make an industrial and geared engine mechanics wet dream, and that includes the machinery and tooling in Mineral shops (a quonset hut). The guys out thehre are fine to work with too, and have run an intensive operation for decades successfully.

The most talented young guns I know are gainfully employed elsewhere right now. Hopefully some other talent will come out of the woodwork.

Actually the Quonset hut is a carbarn style building next to the shop. The shops are a traditional wood building, an old truck shop that Jack Anderson and I relocated about 25 years ago. (Along with the quonset hut, which we put on a small foundation wall to provide enough clearance to park rolling stock inside.) We added a small extension to the shop for the machine tools, and it even has a light duty overhead crane, which is handy for small stuff like steam domes and compressors.

We've also added a couple of pole barn style buildings fairly recently, which means that many of our locomotives are finally under cover. They were in the plan back when we laid out the shop, which is why it always had such a long lead track but it took 20 some years to get there.

hmmm... "25 years ago" and "took 20 some years"... Guess that ruins any chance I had of getting listing in that "young guns" group.

Please contact me off-post. The person I'm thinking of may not be a "young gun", but he sure as heck has the experience.

We don't really care how young (or old) the person is, skills and qualifications are what's important. I'll drop you a note.
