I am planning a trip to New York later in the spring/summer to look for rail/marine stuff that is still with us. Word on the street is there is more then one might think.

There is the Barge Music at the foot of Fulton Street in Brooklyn. The barge was a covered coffee barge, not railroad owned. But very similar to the ones that were.

And there are several other tugs around the new York shoreline.

The Cosnak tug ex New york Central 3 was getting an overhaul, may still be in Staten Island.

It can be seen from the street (East Strand) docked on Rondout Creek but it isn't open to the public yet.

In my opinion the whole rail/marine subject is neglected. There is a whole world of interesting history there.

It is only in the last few years that a book that covers the whole country came out. Have you seen Where Rails meet the Sea?

We think of salt water operations but the Great Lakes had some neat
operations also!

I have the book "Where the Rails Meet the Sea" and I am also a member of the mentioned yahoo group. The really tough thing about ships is once they get neglected so far they sink and it's all over. A locomotive sitting for 50 years can be made to look like new a lot easier than a boat sunk to the bottom of the harbor.
