At the Swindon Works for testing, March 20, 1955. Not sure of its current status. The group's website notes two runs from York were cancelled in March.

The loco is currently out of traffic awaiting the fitting of new crown stays. Should be ready soon I think.

Certainly looks quite different without the smoke lifters. Removed for testing or not applied at this time?

They would have been removed during the indicated testing. It was standard Swindon practice to build a shelter around the front for the technicians. In the case of 71000 the exhaust deflectors were in the way.
