Post subject:  Potential use for Classifieds

After reading Tom Cornillie's responce to a post about the U-30 going to scrap, I notice the line about an ex NYC going to scrap (maybe) it made me think of one of my envisioned uses of the classifieds.
If the _____ (fill in the blank) railroad museum or historical group has something like this and is thinking of destruction as a soultion, could you please post it on the classifieds first. If you only know about it could you approach the group and offer this as a opition.
Even if no other solution is found and the item meets the final date with "The brass handled wrench" there is probally some good that can come of it. Possibly more income than a per pound price. Not mention someone else ending up with something needed for their project.
My posting about NKP 54 has brought this to my attention due to people wanting parts of the car but not the whole car. If the vandals have their way first, (burning it to the ground) before I find a home for it, I have a list of parties needing parts. I would much rather sell to them or even give them the parts before the scrap man.
If your group is thinking of "cleaning up the property" and triming the collection, please consider this option first. If you are worried about dealing with all the " tire kickers", "lookie lou's" and others that aren't serious, I'm willing to act as a middle man. (free of charge) I will do everything possible to protect the parties from all the people that have opinions on what" should" be done and all the other things that sometimes come up of a simular nature.
I'm sure the last thing anyone wants is posts on the internet(this board ) from the ones who do nothing but criticise sharing their views.
My Main reason for offering my time in such a manner is the "day late and a dollar" short stories that lead to things being gone forever.

Jack, I will gladly volunteer to be your "assistant middleman" for things that are endangered in my region. During my stint as a board member at a fairly well known museum, I was a strong (to the point of being annoying...) advocate of sensible collections management. However, I am a strong advocate of the position that you can't preserve and interpret something if it is gone. Buying time is preferable to being lost forever, we are at least giving others a chance to "do it right" in the future. While I personally don't give a tinker's damn about any newer GE locomotive, (my interest is in anything "steam era & 1st generation diesel", I.E. pre-1960), I respect the fact that it may be of interest to others and could serve an interpretive function in the right environment. In another 40 years, the "junk" from the '70's could be as significant to future generations as steam and heavyweights are to us.
