One design flaw in this otherwise wonderful display; the roof needs a ceiling, otherwise the engine will have white stripes across it in line with every roof truss. The solution I’ve seen used elsewhere is to apply pre-painted steel building panels (the stuff normally used for walls and roofs) to the bottom of the trusses with the self drilling all thread fasteners. White material has the added advantage of reflecting more light on the top of the engine. Such an installation will need a lot of screened vents around the perimeter, with exhaust vents high on the roof to keep an air flow under the roof to prevent condensation from pooling on the steel. This would have been the perfect place to use a continuous ridge vent.

Retrofitting a ceiling such as I described solved the “rally stripe” problem on Soo 1011, the Mike displayed in Ladysmith, WI, hopefully it will be done here before that nice paint job gets ruined.

By the way, did anyone notice that this engine has had its jacket restored?

Dennis of course refers to white stripes caused by birds nesting in the rafters.
Here's a photo of Soo 1011 at Ladysmith, Wisconsin, with the ceiling he referred to:

For some reason, we never had any bird problems under the shelter that covered CV 220, though it has open rafters; not sure why..
