Can't remember if I posted this before (didn't see it in Search). Morehead & North Fork 12 at Clearfield, Kentucky, in 1962:

Certainly one of the neater 0-6-0's in existance. An 0-6-0 with only one sand dome is rather rare I would think. Always thought that this one should have been restored and put back in service for operation at some museum. Anyone know what's going on with the engine these days? Has she been cosmetically restored at least? Is she on display somewhere? Anyone got any recent photos?

The engine is still in a shed in Morehead. The family that owns it apparently is not ready to let it go. I think it will eventually be preserved but where and how are unknown. Spencer would be a perfect place for the engine. At least one photo exists of the 0-6-0 at Spencer. It would also be a good engine for the museum to operate assuming they could afford the overhaul.

Is that its original Southern tender? Most A-7s had slope back tenders.

Once upon a time the remaining diesels and steam loco there "belonged" to George Silcott, the industrial loco broker out of Worthington, Ohio. In the mid 80's when I was doing a few projects with him he "offered" me the locos, but by that time, I believe the estate of the railroad felt that they had been abandoned and reverted back. The problem was that once the railroad bridge to the C&O had been torn up for a local road project, the county road comission would not give a permit to move the locomotive over the road over the new bridge due to weight. When I finally stopped by to look in the later 80's some volunteers were caring for the locos, and they definitely felt Silcott no longer had a claim to them.

I believe that you already posted the photo.

The tender behind the engine is from #10. It is still in existance with #11 in Everett PA.

I plan to write a brief in the near future explaining all that was done in the 1990's to preserve #12. The engine is still in the engine house in Clearifield. The lot around the engine house is being cleaned up in order to put in a new highway bridge next to the old one.

The diesel locomotives on the property never belonged to George Silcott. These came in the 1970's during a possible coal loading facility development was being explored.

My family is from the Morehead/Clearfield area and I recall back in July 1996 (I believe) that my uncle and myself visited the enginehouse just after a tornado had gone through. The door of the enginehouse was ripped off its hinges, but thankfully the engine inside looked in remarkable condition.

It's too bad that this locomotive hasn't been restored and made operable. I can remember my great grandmother talking about riding on a M&NF steam engine in her younger days because she somehow knew the engineer on a particular run. I would like to think that this is the locomotive, but I obviously can't say for sure.

Also, if I remember correctly, there seemed to be quite a bit of trackage still remaining around the Clearfield area. The M&NF is a neat little railroad with a tad bit of family history attached.
