Coal Prices

What are you guys paying for coal at the mine? Or for that matter what are you paying for coal deliverd and how far are you from the mine?

Good Pocahontas coal delivered to Fort Wayne, Indiana for NKP 765's test runs was $140/ton delivered.

The coal was $105/ton, the rest was transportation.

Do you guys still get that uh...rough....looking coal? It looked interesting the last time I was up there but it looked like your firemen had figured the stuff out and your hostler was getting pretty good at sizing it with a hammer.
I am assuming it was mine run or something??

That's about what I remember, watching the poor guy sort through basket balls and dust with his hammer. All of the sudden he hit a soild one...he looked at us and back at it and said "huh, I'll have to go get the backhoe...."
All in a days work!

Run of the mine can get smaller once you have it, but slack will always be slack!

We used to have a front end loader arrange our coal pile once it became spread out by pushing it back in a pile, much like they arrange garbage in a landfill. Yes, the end product was a bunch of slack, but the pile looked nice!! That doesn't happen anymore since coal goes from NS's hopper to our hopper.

I think TVRM is paying around $135/ton delivered for Pocahontas #3.

I think another benefit of TRAIN would be to develop a leverage contract on coal purchases. Pool together a number of groups and use the volume and a multi-year commitment to shop for the best price for a good grade of coal. Does anyone know if this idea has been tried?
