How did rail on the Kenosha wye survive scrapping?

It didn't. Both the wye at Kenosha and a small stretch of track on Boreas Pass (Rocky Point) have been re-layed. The Forest Service will occasionally run handcart demos on these two stretches of track.

While the Como roundhouse is privately owned, it's usually open to the public once a year during an event called "Boreas Pass Railroad Days" sponsored by the Forest Service.

Thanks for the link. This adds detail to the basic story about these turntables that I already had, such as some dates, names, etc. The table at Como has now moved three times for preservation, in addition to its use as a roof support for all those years. Once to Silver Plume, where it was reassembled, then to the site near Georgetown, and now to Como.

That explains the lack of ballast under the Kenosha wye ties.

The roadbed east and west of the Pass is still quite evident, and the info displays along the wye show scenes of the area I wasn't familiar with.

OK, now I'm curious... why do you have to ask?

As to the answer, ironically enough the nearest live rail would be another chunk of the C&S narrow gauge, the Georgetown Loop, especially in the summer (when the Loop's actually operating) via Guanella Pass. A few years ago, the closest would've been the D&RG Tennessee Pass line at Buena Vista. Now, the nearest full-time operating line would be something in the metro Denver area, some 70ish miles away.
