Since I've been asked what are the plans for Oslo #3, let me fill you in a little bit on the car's condition and the power status on the line in Kingston. #3 was last operated roughly 2 years ago at the Beird St. Pier (Red Hook area of Brooklyn). I won't repeat here the sad story of the Brooklyn Historic Railway Association that tried to start a trolley operation there. #3 was on permanent loan to BHRA, and now that they're defunct, the owner of the car has agreed to loan it to TMNY. We haven't had a chance to checkout the car electrically, since we just got it down on our rails this morning. However, we believe the car to still be operational. The car has some minor cosmetic problems, but on the whole it's a fabulous small 4 wheel trolley. Unfortunately, trolley overhead power is still not here. Because we're in an utility-dense area (gas, water and sewer) we can't just string wire on our own; it has to be properly engineered. TMNY is seeking state and federal monies to fund the project, so its impossible to give a time line when this will happen. We are getting a new parking lot and fencing, thanks to New York State. |
