| Post subject: | Three Rio Grande Survivors |
Rio Grande 2-8-2 481, with 2-8-0 268 and caboose 0574, heading up the Alamosa-Salida line between Hooper and Moffat, on December 3, 1950 in this Bob Richardson photo. This route would be abandoned about two years later. Today, the 481 is usually operable at Durango, with the 268 painted back into its Grande Gold scheme that it first wore at the Chicago RR Fair of 1949 (and continued to wear in the movie Denver & Rio Grande and in revenue service until 1955) and now safely under cover at Gunnison. The caboose ended up on the Georgetown Loop and is now at the Colorado RR Museum. http://photoswest.org/cgi-bin/imager?00402149+RR-2149 |
