Once again, what nice work you people do.

A question, if you don't mind:

In the new car shop photo, the concrete floor does not come to the "field" side of the rails-- why not pour the floor right to within 1/2" or so of the rails?

I am always amazed how Strasburg can find the effort to recreate history to a level of accuracy while using modern materials and techniques. It may be of interest to let people know that at Pullman many Hale & Kilborn seats were drawn up with the variations that went into their cars, as well as several other types and of course their own custom designs. As I collate the numerical database to the renumbered letter scheme, I come across many of these drawings which I now can locate using the Excel "Find" command. This includes the type 73 seat and also the type 97 which was in the B&M diner and cafe-coach that I work on as time permits at IRM. The era of the drawings in this category of the Pullman collection at IRM spans the period 1890 (with a few earlier drawings) to about 1910. As always, we charge for copies of these drawings to support the work of the IRM Pullman Library and can be reached off-list for any requests. Again, beautiful work!
Best wishes, Ted Anderson

In a shop where the same type of work is done all the time, pouring the floor as you suggest is beneficial. Our back shop has concrete level with the top of the railhead for half the track length and level with the bottom of the base for the other half. There are benefits to both, but there are disadvantages as well. Our rationale was that ballasted track, even with the top of the ties gives us the most flexibility for the least expense.

Sandy and Kelly,

LOL That is good! I remember that chalked on the side of 475 in 1991.
I'm surprised that hasn't been placed on 972 as well! lol
